Unlike other types of flanges that have a raised face or a ring groove for gasket placement, a lap joint flange has a flat face and a stub end. The stub end, which is typically made of a material compatible with the pipe or fitting being connected, slides over the pipe or fitting. The lap joint flange then rests against the back of the stub end, and the two are welded together.
The S30408 material is equivalent to the 06Cr19Ni10 material under Chinese national standard (GB/T24511-2017), which is commonly used for stainless steel materials.
